Girls' Generation is a household name when it comes to K-Pop. Everyone knows who they are and what they've done for the genre. Well, 10 years have past since their debut and they are still making music. Since their 6th album release about a month ago, we are yet again graced by the voice of one of their beloved members. Im Yoona, the visual, appeared on SM Station season 2 with her solo song “When the Wind Blows”. Im Yoona isn't my bias but in this group, everyone who isn't Kim Taeyeon is my bias wrecker.
Before I begin writing anything else, I need to say that that song was breathtaking. Honestly I hope Yoona's first solo album is this style of music; the airy, atmospheric, enormous sounding choruses. The video, I believe, took place in two different time frames. I would assume that her and the boyfriend together is supposed to be them physically being there for each other. While the internet, long distance relationship was about them being separated for work or whatever else it could have been.
Another idea I have is that this all took place at the same time and they were furthering themselves from each other. The natural course of separation was overcoming their lives and pushing them from each other. Therefore, the scenes of them together were near the beginning of the relationship. Their love was new, fresh, and blooming. After time, the affection fades and they become more honest, cold, and distant which was represented with the video chats and phone conversations.
Yoona has a beautiful voice but her voice is considered weak compared to those of Taeyeon, Tiffany, or Seohyun. However, this calming but powerful song atmosphere that is present in this song, along with her soft and almost frail voice is a perfect match. It wouldn't make sense to put Yoona on a solo track similar to “Wannabe” by Hyoyeon. Her voice is meant to be cute, comforting and sort of airy. If I could listen to this song forever, I probably would. That's how much I already love this song.
Love Yoona. Support Yoona. Even if you don't support the company she comes from, support her because she deserves it. She is often overlooked when it comes to her vocal ability and that needs to stop. She has a wonderful voice that is powerful in its own way. This has been a music video review, discussing “When the Wind Blows” by Yoona. Thank you so much for supporting me and staying with me through all of my changes and shortcomings. I appreciate every one of you. I'll see you in the next one.
