Sorry I'm so behind with k-pop. I didn't mean to be, life just got in the way like it always does. I'm so excited to share my top songs of 2016 so far. This video and blog covers the first 3 months of 2016, so January through the end of March. So music videos or songs that came out in April will not be included in this list.
To start out, let's begin with number 20.
20. Taemin - Press Your Number
This song caught my attention from the first time I heard it and I still love it to this day, however, it's at the bottom of my list because I don't find myself craving to hear the tune. Therefore, it reaches the bottom of this list. However, it is still on the list, so that's a plus for Taemin's much awaited comeback.
19. Eric Nam - Good for You
Eric Nam is one of those guys that I never followed really closely, but when he released this song, I feel in love. Similarly to Taemin, however I didn't find myself listening to it very often. I did love it and can't wait for more Eric Nam, whether featured or solo.
18. Got7 - Fly
Got7 is a group that I love to hate. I don't actually hate them but there's something there that I can't get into them. I loved every song they've promoted so far in their career, but I can't get into them for some reason. Also, this song to me sounded like a BTS song. Just my personal opinion.
17. Dal*Shabet - Someone Like U
I really enjoyed this release from Dal*Shabet. More so than Joker from last year. However, Like many of these starting out songs, I didn't find myself wanting to listen to this, but I still enjoyed listening to it when it came on my playlist.
16. 4Ten - Severely
4Ten had a really weird release schedule over the past year or so and I'm not sure the reason behind that, but they released Go Easy, Tornado, and Why music videos a year before the release of the album and then on the release day, they uploaded Severely. I fell in love with this song and with the album rather quickly.
15. Jimin & Xiumin - Call You Bae
I was very excited for this release because I love JImin and Xiumin is also a fine guy. This video through me off guard because of how cute it was. I think all of us were expecting something fierce from the Unpretty Rapstar Jimin. Either way, this song is addictive and gets stuck in your head really easily, even if Jimin sounds like a little kid.
14. Stellar - Sting
Sting is one of Stellar's less sexy releases and there's nothing wrong with that. This release focused on the portrayal of the media and how the media wants Stellar to be. This includes their company. The video shows computer mice clicking up at the girls' legs and bugs incessantly bothering the girls. It was a bold but strong move.
13. Mamamoo - You're the Best
Mamamoo isn't my favorite group. In fact, I don't really like them, however with this release, it opened my eyes. I found myself digging up more and more information and songs from Mamamoo. This is still my favorite release to date from the group, but there are many others that deserve attention.
12. Oh My Girl - Liar Liar
I still listen to this almost daily because of how good this song is. In fact, it's only 11 am here and I've already listened to it twice today. Oh My Girl has yet to disappoint with a release. Also another song to check out from their latest release, Pink Ocean, is I Found Love.
11. 4Minute - Hate
I know! I know! How can I put 4MInute so low on my list? Well, you'll see, the rest of the songs are just that good that I had no other choice but to put 4Minute this low. I love this song and jam to it all the time. However, I wish they would have chosen a different song to promote like Blind.
10. Jessi - Excessive Love
Jessi blew me away with her comeback song Excessive Love. She blew me away not because of her talent as a rapper because this song featured zero rapping. She blew me away because her ability to sing a song without rapping. Not many rappers can do that. Hyuna almost always has rapping in her songs, same with LE and many more. I give her props for being able to do that.
9. Yoona - Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway
Yoona's solo debut for the SM Station was cute and amazing! It had a chill factor to it that I love that also existed in another song that made this list. The video was simple but still cute as ever. I love Yoona and can't wait for SNSD's comeback!
8. GFriend - Rough
I think out of all the artists on this list, GFriend surprised me the most. I enjoyed their past songs but not nearly as much as this release. They stepped up their game with the entire album and swept me off my feet. This album and video for Rough are amazing! Definitely deserve at least 8th place, if not higher.
7. Amber - Borders
Amber surprised us all again with her all English song that included rapping, singing, and her high singing. Because sometimes she sings low like she's rapping. This song is amazing and I still get chills when I listen to it today. Her lyrics and the video are very powerful and have great meaning behind them.
6. Lee Hi - Breathe
The much awaited comeback of Lee Hi finally arrived earlier this year and I don't think we could've been more happy unless they released a full length. However, this song Breathe and Fxxk Wit Us are my favorites from her mini album entitled Seoulite. Go check them out!
5. Crush - Don't Forget (Featuring Taeyeon)
At first, the only reason I loved this song was because of my Ultimate Bias, Taeyeon. But over time, I realized that Crush is a great singer that deserves more attention. His voice is smooth and relaxing. And of course Taeyeon's part is amazing as expected. I was a little disappointed not seeing her in the music video however.
4. Wendy & Eric Nam - Spring Love
Eric Nam makes this list again with Wendy from Red Velvet. The song Spring Love was so addictively cute and warm that it just needed to be at number 4. The music video was just as cute as the song. Eric Nam and Wendy are on a date at a rather abandoned amusement park. Either way, it was too cute not to watch 500 times.
3. Brave Girls - Deepened
Brave Girls are a group I had never heard about before but with this song I still think this is one of the best songs of the year so far. It topped 4Minute, Amber, Lee Hi, Stellar and many more to get here. It deserves it!
2. Red Velvet - July 7th (One of These Nights)
Red Velvet made their comeback just recently and blew us all away with One of These Nights, a ballad focusing on a fairy tale but subtly hinting at the Sewol Ferry Tragedy of 2014. The video is littered with details that would make one believe that the song is focused solely on the tragedy. This song is amazing and in my opinion deserves the nubmer 2 spot.
1. Taeyeon - Rain
Did you think it would be anything different? At the beginning of the year, Taeyeon released a song called Rain for the opener for SM Station. Her song was a smooth jazz influenced ballad with a visually pleasing music video. Anything with Taeyeon in it is visually pleasing. She's my Ultimate Bias, but that's not the only reason this song reached number 1. I find myself listening to this song all the time and it stuck in my head calling for me to listen to it.
I hope you enjoyed that list. It was my personal opinion so please begin your attacks now here or in the YouTube comments. Don't forget to share this wherever you can. Thanks.
