Today I'm doing something a little different. Suzy Bae, my Miss A bias, released her pre-debut song. The song is called “Pretend” but I don't think there is a music video for it since I can't find one and JYP never released anything on their YouTube channel. So what I'm going to do is rather than give my insight on the music video and the song, I'll just try to give a more in depth review of the song. I'll listen to it a few times to make sure I got everything I should get.
The song has a nice chill laid back vibe to it. However her vocals seem a bit hidden in the mix. I don't know if that was a stylistic choice but her vocals seem louder in the verses than in the chorus. I understand that it has a chill vibe so it should be calming vocals but there are parts where I can't even hear her. I love the “na na na” vocal solo she does near the bridge of the song. It gives it even more of a chill jazz vibe. Another thing I love about the way she chose to sing this song is in the beginning of the chorus when she's singing about pretending to be happy, she sings the first part in regular time and sings the second part almost in double time. It's so simple but it adds a cool feeling to the style of the song. Even with her vocals being really quiet throughout the majority of the song, her voice does get a little stronger towards the end of the song and her breathy singing style is beautiful and dreamy. I can't wait to listen to the rest of this album.
I hope this wasn't too weird, doing a review not with a music video. But leave your thoughts about the song and about Suzy's debut in the comment section. Give me a like and share this post on social media. Thank you so much for your support and like always, I'll see ya in the next one.
In this section of my website, I will review Kpop music videos, albums, songs, and various other things pertaining to Kpop. This will be the main stage of my website. It is where the majority of the action will take place.
