Today you guys get a double feature because Subin of Dal*Shabet released two music videos. “Strawberry” and “Circle's Dream” are the featured releases and I hope that these songs are anywhere near as good as Dal*Shabet's music because their sound is phenomenal and beautiful. Also, I hope that “Circle's Dream” has a lot of circle imagery that is utilized within a dream sequence. I expect nothing less.
One thing I will point out is I love that the blacked out portion of the video was red “like a strawberry.” Due to the aspect ratio of the video, many videos have the black bars above and below the video, but the producer saw this as an opportunity. I love it. The essence of the video “Strawberry” was Subin walking near a lake. Even though this video was so simple, the aesthetic was brilliant and draws you in.
I don't understand the chorus line. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me as a native English speaker, however the song was very powerful and peaceful. I would describe the atmosphere of the song to be a compelling anthem ballad. It had the typical ballad elements such as piano and thought out vocals, but the vibe of the song sounded like a song of encouragement or anthem. Subin's voice is incredible and honestly, this might become one of my favorite songs of the year because of how well the vocal and piano meshed together without having one overlap or overtake the other.
Once again, they utilized the black bars in “Circle's Dream”. Honestly I had no idea what was going on in that video but I liked it. There were just multiple Subin's appearing throughout the video. Red and white must be a theme in this album, I'm hoping because there was a ton of red and white in this video.
The song reminded me of a mix of Lim Kim and Lorde, except better than both of them. Subin's voice sounds a lot better. It may be the overuse of auto-tune in this song or the ridiculous amount of overlapping and dubbing of vocals, but her voice sounded phenomenal. Also the backing track was really stripped down. It was just a guitar and some light percussion instruments. With a backing track that is that limited, her voice is going to sound amazing. It's like when Taeyeon sang “11:11” live, her voice sounded enormous.
Well, this has been my review of “Strawberry” and “Circle's Dream” by Subin. I'm definitely going to check out this album and if it's anything like I've heard, it may surpass Suzy's debut album Yes No Maybe? Thank you for all the support. If you liked this, please give it a like and share this post on social media. Comment your thoughts, opinions and any video you'd like me to review in the future. I'll see ya in the next one.
