I don't know who One is but he just debuted under YG Entertainment. Apparently he's been hyped for a while because people seem to already know about him quite a bit. He debuted, like most YG artists, with 2 songs. “Gettin' By” and “Heyahe” are One's first releases and hopefully they are good like many of YG artists tend to be.
The music video for “Gettin' By” was really chill. It reminded me of a Zico video. There was just a lot of chillin' and hanging out rather than dancing or a lot of movement. I want to say there was symbolism with all the balls and the skateboard, but I can't think of anything. Maybe that life keep moving on even when bad things (the skateboard being run over) happen. The song was pretty chill too and also kind of reminded me of Zico. This kid has flow. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of his singing voice so if he could just be a rapper, I'd like him a lot more.
I don't know if I understood the video for “Heyahe” any better than the first one. It was a bit confusing but I think the idea was a boy that found sexual attraction and was trying to cope with it. I'm probably wrong but that's the vibe I got from the video. The song was a little better and was more along the lines of Jay Park but I still would prefer him to rap. But for debut songs, these were pretty good. I'll keep my eye on him.
