Just 5 days after SNSD had their comeback celebrating their 10 year anniversary, Jessica Jung (former member of SNSD) makes her comeback with “Summer Storm” which in my personal opinion has the impression of something calming yet powerful and potentially disastrous. I love Jessica and will always support her and that is why I put aside all other reviews I need to do in order to review Jessica's music video and hers alone.
From what I saw in the music video, it's safe to say that Jessica possibly feels alone and depressed. Many might say this video is a reflection on her past with SNSD. Throughout the video, she is seen alone looking back on her happy moments and celebration. In the video, it's obviously a guy she is missing but that “guy” can be interpreted to mean SNSD, her past group. Maybe as time moved forward, she may have regretted rushing into her company so fast. Maybe she just misses her girls and wishes them the best of luck. The desire Jessica has to reverse time and go back to her girls can be seen when everything in the memory of her party is moving in reverse. She wishes to reverse time and return to simpler times.
Another possible reading from this video could be as a prequel to the rest of her videos. To review, “Fly” was about her being stuck in the middle of nowhere in a desert longing to be in the tundra or in a winterland. This concept continued into “Wonderland” which was about her actually leaving where she was and going to the winterland. In this video, we can see a guy she is with and the two of them possibly celebrating Christmas because of the fake snow. Jessica is also seen holding a globe similar to the one she was holding at the end of “Fly”. Also in the video, we see the changing of seasons which could be interpreted as the death or loss of a loved one. The reason I say this is a prequel is because her loved one left in some way and her desire to return to him is so intense. She believes or knows he's in a winter wonderland which could also be Heaven, assuming the loved one passed on.
Sorry for the theories. As for the song, it was a really low intensity song that utilized heavy pop beats over soft instrumentals. As for her releases, this song may be my favorite of hers so far. She is by far my second favorite voice from SNSD and for a good reason. I don't have much to say about the song because it was extremely good. It was a typical Jessica song but not too ordinary. Her powerful vocals are everything and the less I have to say about a song probably means it's that much better; I don't have any qualms with it.
I hope you enjoyed my review/theories of “Summer Storm” by Jessica. Please support her. I know a lot of you are still angry with her because of her departure from SNSD but if the girls can support her then so can we. Besides, if we say OT9 forever, it means we support all the members regardless what they are doing. Rather it be on their own or as a group. If you liked this review, please like and share. Leave a comment telling me what your thoughts are about the video. Thank you so much for supporting me and I'll see you in the next one.
