I'm so far behind in this world of k-pop. It is true that if you are inactive from k-pop for more than a day, you fall behind. I have two Jessica videos to review. The first one is “Fly” and the second is “Love Me the Same”. I'm assuming these tracks are both off of the same album. I am so far behind though that I still have to review Monsta X, if I have time, and Amber's new song as well as a couple others I don't remember. So I'm going to do both Jessica songs in one blog.
The music video for “Fly” seemed to have a message to it. Maybe it ties into SM Entertainment and Jessica's relationship, but maybe not. The concept seemed to be a girl in the desert wanting to be somewhere cold. Ways to interpret this? Jessica wanting to be somewhere else that wasn't SM Entertainment.
The song was catchy. However, I felt like the rap part was a little unnecessary. I thought the song was going to end right before it went into the rap verse. The song, while enjoyable, dragged on a little, which a song should never have that feeling of doing. I'm not sure who the rapper was, he was okay, but it would have been better if they just cut that part out and shortened the song altogether.
There is a lot of symbolism within the music video for “Love Me the Same”. In the beginning, Jessica is reading a book about how to grow a cactus. As the video goes on, you can clearly see that she has gone insane. But when she wakes up one morning, her house is filled with sand and plant life. At the very end, a rose comes into focus. I think the meaning behind this music video is that sometimes a person can be like a cactus, unloving and prickly, but with enough love and attention, they can become a beautiful rose. All I have to say though is Jessica is really lonely in these two videos. She's roasting marshmallows by herself in one video and eating pancakes with a cactus in the next.
The song was a mid-tempo ballad that reminded me a lot of BoA in The Face era. This song didn't have any random rap parts or strange build ups, it was perfect just the way it was.
That is my review of Jessica's songs “Fly” and “Love Me the Same”. I hope you enjoyed reading through this. If you did, please like, comment, and share this blog. If you didn't, please do it anyway.
