It’s been a while since I’ve watched a music video from Henry. I loved his solo work back in the days of “Fantastic”, “Trap” and “Saturday”, but his more current stuff I was never fond of. Well here’s to hoping Henry can lure me back in with “Monster”.
Oh my goodness! That was a fantastic song. First off, I love the cinematography in the video. It was clean and there were some contrasting themes in the color coordination. Almost the entire video was monochromatic or black and white. However there were a few scenes where blue tones brushed in or red tones burst through. The video showed Henry driving through a crowd after everything is burning and being destroyed. He is beat up. I think the blues and reds compliment each other while still providing some resistance with each other. The song is about regret, so maybe fighting the peace with regret and suffering.
The song was so simple but even the instrumentation was telling a story of regret without even having to be explained through lyrics. The entire song was only a clean delayed guitar with some reverb and Henry’s voice. Even still, the song was phenomenal and like I said, told the story well. I listened to the English version but I didn’t even need English lyrics to understand the meaning of this song.
