I guess this is a huge moment for a lot of people. I know for a fact that I have a friend that he was more excited about this debut than almost anything else happening in Kpop during this half of the year. (G)-I-DLE is officially here and they made their much anticipated debut with “Latata”. For those of you who aren’t aware, this is the group that Jeon Soyeon is a part of. If you don’t know who Jeon Soyeon is, well, then I don’t know what to tell you.
In the music video for “Latata”, there isn’t much I could tell you that is story based. It was just a video with dancing and visual effects. If there was a story, it went right over my head. One of my favorite scenes was with one of the members in the room that was lighted with purple lights. I love that imagery.
As for the group, I believe there are six girls. I haven’t followed this group and I don’t know a lot about them. I counted six. I’m hoping I’m right. I like Jeon Soyeon for the way she fluctuates when she raps. It reminds me of Grace. My favorite member based on looks right now is the girl who was sitting on the couch, which I believe her name is Yuqi.
(G)-I-DLE’s debut song was pretty good. I see people in the comments praising it, saying it’s the best song in Kpop but that’s just not true. Like I said, it was good. The thing I don’t necessarily like about Cube is the fact that since 4Minute disbanded, every girl group they have has a girl that has to sound like Hyuna. It bugs me because Hyuna’s style was only unique and original when she was the only one doing it. But now that we’ve got three girls that all sound the same, it’s being overused.
The song had a tropical vibe but almost “Arabic” or Middle Eastern sounding. There wasn’t a lot of vocal variation that I noticed. Maybe I need to go check out the song again, but it felt like just another song by another girl group. I need something really different.
I was just telling my friend that LOOΠΔ is going to be my group I compare to from now on. If you are going to wow me, I need to see something that’s as different as LOOΠΔ. It doesn’t have to sound or actually be anything like LOOΠΔ, but LOOΠΔ has a sound that carries with them and is evident in each song they put out. I don’t want Cube to have that sound, I want each artist under Cube to have their own unique sound. SNSD sounds different than f(x) or Red Velvet. Each group is unique in their style as a group.
What did you think of their debut? What did you love about the song? Who was your favorite member? Let me know in the comment section. Thank you for all your support. I appreciate every one of you. Please be sure to support (G)-I-DLE. Thank you again for all you do and I’ll see you in my next review.
In this section of my website, I will review Kpop music videos, albums, songs, and various other things pertaining to Kpop. This will be the main stage of my website. It is where the majority of the action will take place.
