EXID is the five member girl group under Yedang Entertainment consisting of Junghwa, LE, Hani, Solgi, and Hyerin. EXID is an acronym for Exceed in Dreaming. The girls rose to popularity after a fan cam of Hani performing “Up & Down” live became viral. They have a few other singles that are notable such as “Every Night”, “I Feel Good”, and “Ah Yeah”. These five girls just released their comeback called “Hot Pink”.
Like many of you, I’m excited for EXID to finally have a comeback, even though it hasn’t been that long since “Ah Yeah” was released. I still feel that this comeback will bring something new to the table, whether it be style, confidence, or whatever else. “Hot Pink” seems to have two sides to it according to the teasers and teaser pics. It seems there’s the girly side of it that deals with hot pink as a color and there’s the gritty, dirty side of it because in a teaser picture, they were in a garage with oil and stuff in the background. I guess we’ll have to see.
Now that I’ve watched the video, I’ll do some summary and analysis on it. First of all, can I comment on how good all the girls look, but especially Hani and Junghwa? Their hair was on point. On to the music video. The video was like I guessed for the most part, there were softer parts such as Junghwa’s singing parts and then there were gritty parts such as LE and Hani’s parts. A comment I will make on this song is I feel like there’s some of “Ah Yeah” and “Up & Down” coming out during Hyerin and Solgi’s parts. Maybe that’s just me though. I liked the contrast the song had overall, although I do wish they could have done without the black guy’s parts, just my opinion though. It’s kind of like on “Ring My Bell” by Girl’s Day, I felt like the black guy wasn’t necessary. The video plays out as five girls that are running their own gas station with “pink oil” with you wouldn’t put in the gas tank anyway, but I think the point of this video was to sexualize girls as being more masculine than they have been seen in the past, because there were a lot of sexual innuendos such as LE holding the tip of the gas pump like she did.
Those are my thoughts on this video, and remember, it’s my own personal opinions and just how I see the video. Don’t take this as gospel. I thought the video was fun and the song was also fun although I don’t think that black guy needed to be there. However, I did quite enjoy this video and can’t wait for their album to drop if it hasn’t already.
