So here we are at the end. Goblin has been an ongoing South Korean drama based around the concept of deities, goblins, grim reapers, ghosts and other supernatural beings taking a more human form. Ji Eun Tak, a 20 year old girl sees ghosts and is labeled the Goblin's bride. She is the one who will remove the sword out of the heart of the 900+ year old Goblin Kim Shin.
This week the series comes to an end and will be replaced by a new drama. At the end of episode 14, Ji Eun Tak took a vacation to Canada to seek out the origin of a letter she had originally sent from the hotel in Canada. Kim Shin shows up and asks her out on a date. That is where the episode ended off. There are only 2 more episodes left in the series. What will happen?
Ji Eun Tak is struggling to remember her memories while Kim Shin is slowly trying to win her back. In the beginning of this episode, Ji Eun Tak buys Kim Shin a sandwich and he asks if it's enough. Later, she confesses she's never had luck with men and asks Kim Shin on a date. The scene changes and it is Ji Eun Tak speaking on the phone with Sunny about being at a restaurant with a guy, like in Kim Shin's vision.
The next several scenes is depicting what happened to Sunny over the course of the 10 years and even though she pretends to have forgotten, she hasn't but can't live out this tragedy. Therefore she is saying goodbye to Wang Yeo, the Grim Reaper. She hopes that the two of them can live their separate happy endings but when they meet in the street or happen to run into each other, they can greet as friends.
Ji Eun Tak cries to remember and when she sets the maple leaf down, she remembers setting the leaf in the book which brings back her memories of saying “If you catch a falling leaf, you're love will come true.” Then Goblin goes on to say there is no eternal sadness and no eternal love to which Ji Eun Tak replies, “I believe there is.” “Which one will you choose?” says the Goblin. Then at the same time as her memory, she responds to no one in particular, but to herself at the same time, “I choose sad love.”
Grim Reaper receives a deceased soul and it is two lovers that were separated by the Korean War. He decides to take the tea away; the tea that causes one to forget the memories of this life. The reunion of Kim Shin, Ji Eun Tak and Wang Yeo is very cute and fun, but Eun Tak keeps having nightmares that she is just dreaming. It is revealed that Sunny is moving and at the end of episode 15, Kim Shin proposes to Ji Eun Tak.
Episode 16 starts off with Ji Eun Tak saying yes to Kim Shin's marriage proposal. From there the two start prepping for the wedding and being even more romantic. However, all that changes when they learn that Sunny is leaving without a word. She posts her heartfelt letter on Ji Eun Tak's radio show and then leaves. Wang Yeo is left in tears and mourning over the fact that he will never see Sunny again. Wang Yeo realizes the reason for the need of nourishment and housing for the grim reapers. He tells this to the female grim reaper who helped him end his life as Wang Yeo. He says that maybe the punishment is over once they realize and long for a life; the life they so freely ended in the past life.
Ji Eun Tak had been seeing ghosts for a while since the Goblin came back. She saw the Canadian ghost, her friend from the streets and her late aunt. Well it turns out that the reason was to put an ending to the aunt by having the lady from the street take her as a companion into the afterlife. However in the end, Eun Tak sacrificed her life to save a school bus full of children. She told Kim Shin to wait for her because she would be back. 30 years pass and the Grim Reaper is on his last job when he finds out it's Sunny's name. Years later, Sunny and Wang Yeo are reincarnated as an actress and a producer that fall in love immediately. And finally, the Goblin is sitting at the grave site of his family when up walks the Goblin's bride.
